Conclave 2006

dagibbsA somewhat belated con-report, since this is my first post-con opportunity to post.
I had a really good time at Conclave this year. It felt like the energy and number of people was up from the last several years, and while I don't have hard figures, everything I heard from people related to the concom was that numbers were up on the order of 33-50%. It would seem that the move from Lansing to Romulus was a good choice.
Friday arrival started with hotel check-in confusion. After that was, sort of, sorted out, and I had a chance to freshen up, I had dinner with zencuppa and waltzr, and then fed brendand and jeffreyab in the Confusion suite with the left-overs. Friday evening was a "goth-dance" with (from what I and most people seemed to think) was a distinct lack of actually "goth" music. Then a bit of party-hopping and social time.
Saturday started with a nice breakfast/brunch with jeffreyab and my brain feels like someone else, then I took rainbowravenx for brunch-buffet, since I knew she would need a meal. Dinner for middle-eastern with Chuck, Rennie, and Jeff was good as well. Then, I caught the second Voltaire concert on the recommendation of a couple people that the first one had been fun, and quite enjoyed myself. I got some dancing done at the 2nd dance, and did some drumming in the Aegis space, which was also good.
I've not really drummed with others before, and I've not done much drumming, so I've always felt quite self-conscious about not doing it well/destroying the rhythms, but this seemed to work out quite well this time.
Grabbed Sunday lunch with Shalla, Ken aka Captain Clueless, Kendra, and Monique. Then an afternoon of mellow hanging around and good bye hugs, before heading off to the airport.
I was, unfortunately, distinctly unimpressed with the customer service at the hotel, Crowne Plazas are supposed to be one of the higher-end of the Holiday Inn family for service/quality, but this one distinctly annoyed me on a few things. Not enough that I'm unwilling to come back or anything, though.
I also got a few pictures with my new camera, though I haven't had a chance to look at them yet. I think the new camera is working well for the pocketable qualifier -- if I'd had my old camera, I wouldn't have taken any photos at all.
