So, my bike is in the shop for it's spring tuneup, and they inform me the rear shock needs replacing -- they don't have the parts, and it will be 2-4 weeks to get it on order. Doh! That's two to four weeks of non-riding. Also, I really don't think the shock should be gone, so I'm gonna drop by later and have a talk with them about it.

Damn, this does mean I won't be able to go to Penguicon by motorcycle. Great sadness. So, anyone I promised a motorcycle ride to, I will not be able to deliver on that promise at this time. But, hopefully other opportunities will arise.

Bring your gear, and go to the con by way of my house. It's only about 20 minutes from the hotel. I will loan you either the TDM or the V-Strom for the weekend. They're both fun bikes and they're both ready to go. I have Givi cases for them both, so you can even pack your stuff into motorcycle luggage for the 20 minute ride to the hotel. You can take people for rides on either bike, they each have quite adequate passenger seats.

Thank you very much. I may do that. (Unfortunately, one of the person I had offered to take for a ride was along the way, rather than in Detroit area, so this offer wouldn't help for that.)

Also, if you're going to replace the rear shock, you might like an ungraded aftermarket unit better. You could get one with a spring that's best suited to your weight and usage, remote preload, damping adjustments, etc. Depending on what you choose it would cost about the same for something much better, and it might arrive quicker. Just a thought.

Talked about after-market, they were even longer to order (4-6 weeks) rather than 2 weeks. I twitched even more at that long without the bike, and decided to go with the stock one (2 weeks).
