Book 20: The Leather Daddy and the Femme by Carol Queen. Hot, HOT, HOT. I read the first chapter of this a good while ago as a short story in a collection, I read an earlier edition of this, borrowed from a lover/partner, and I finally bought myself a copy just recently and have now read, and enjoyed it, again. I bought this, thinking of gabriel/gabrielle (aka [livejournal.com profile] gabriel_le), and thinking that zie would find it really exciting, but have enjoyed it myself. It is erotica about gender roles, genderfuck, power-exchange, bdsm, poly, with some bits of queer philosophy thrown in, here and there. Well-written, and definitely not a book to be read straight-through, but a book to be read a chapter at a time, and savoured appropriately.

Interestingly, it also reminds me a lot of many of the SF novels published in or around the '50s. Wait-a-sec you say, those didn't have any sex at all in them, how could this erotica, with lots of explicit sexual content remind you of those? Well, because like them, this is a "fix-up" novel, it is a compilation of a series of short-stories written & published independently, then patched-together for publication as a single novel. And, it has many of the same weaknesses -- unevenness from chapter to chapter and a certain choppiness. Though, where the choppiness, the independence of chapters is a weakness in those novels, it isn't really in this, since as I mentioned earlier, this really isn't a book to be read cover to cover at once.

Oh, and did I mention... Haaaawwwt!

Yeah, I think I probably read t-j's copy, too. It seems hers is a well-travelled book. ;)

I don't loan out my copy.
I think this was due to your recommendation of it, a while back.
Really should read it to a sweetie!
