old tapes!
Jun. 6th, 2006 11:32 pmSo, a short bit ago I, well I mean, gabriel_le and I, did a bit of clearing out on one of my rooms -- the front sun room, over the front steps. There'd been a bunch of stuff dumped in there that hadn't been looked at since, I expect, shortly after I moved in -- and of course, bits more over a while later.
Among the most interesting and important discoveries were a couple cases of tapes that I didn't recognise (and thought were Marna's) and some embroidered/cross-stitched pieces that I was pretty sure were Marna's from her Gran. As it turns out, the cross-stitching was Marna's from her Gran (and has been returned to her), but the tape cases actually held my old tapes. So, now, I'm listening to an old tape labelled, "Marna Tested & Benet Approved -- (Or Music to Folk Around By) Aug 15, 95. It brings back the days of, "music re-education camp".
Tom Lehrer - Masochism Tango
Garnet Rogers - This Shirt
The Nails - 88 Lines about 44 Women
Stan Rogers - Harris & the Mare, White Collar Holler
Rawlin's Cross - MacPherson's Lament
Rory Block - God's Gift to Women
Indigo Girls - You & Me of the 10,000 Wars
Moxy Fruvous - Green Eggs & Ham
Lowest of the Low - Rosy & Gray
Spirit of the West - Home for A Rest
Pretenders - Hymn to Her
Nate Bucklin - I Can't Get Over You (so why don't you...) [get under me]
Richard Thompson - 52 Vincent Black Lightning
Tom Lehrer - Poisoning Pigeons in the Park
Louis Armstrong - Ain't Misbehavin'
Bonnie Rait - Love Letter
Suzanne Vega - Left of Centre
Neil Young - Welfare Mothers
Bobby Watt - Black Douglas
Uisce Beatha - Drinkin' with the Lord
Garnet Rogers - The Outside Track
Stan Rogers - 45 Years

Date: 2006-06-07 04:22 pm (UTC)Next time I am over I will bring my tom lehrer mix CD (with 1 song by Dan Glasser at the start). It's a mix I made pulling songs from the "Remains of Tom Lehrer" box set.
Oh yes, and apparently Nate Bucklin does NOT filk (rolls eyes). The fact that he filks was not acknowledged by Steven Brust who considers filk to be loathsome, despite them being roomates for awhile while Nate wrote music. But you know since Nate's was musical, it wasn't filk. Or something. (More eye rolling).
Of course Charles de Lint also thinks filk is bad and not music. Or something. I think this was based on the assumption that all filk is actually copyright violation or something. Even when Joel told him that the genre has changed since the 70's and cited musicians such as Heather Dale I don't think he really believed him. I suppose any filk that's good enough the be appreciated outside the filker community is just "not really filk".
