South-east Ohio?
Apr. 23rd, 2006 08:11 pmSo, I bounced the idea of riding to south-east Ohio two weekends from now off
leolac and she thought it might be cool. So, I need to do the research.
Where exactly will this be? Which park? What's the closest town? (So I can figure distances.)
My schedule would likely have to be something like:
Arrive home in Ottawa Sunday April 30th.
Drop bike at shop mornging of Monday May 1st.
Fly to Pennsylvania evening of Monday May 1st.
Fly home evening of Thursday May 4th.
Pick up bike morning of May 5th.
Ride to Ohio, arriving sometime possibly latish, May 5th.
Have fun in Ohio on Saturday May 6th.
Depart for Ottawa morning of May 7th.
That's a pretty tight schedule, since the ride to Ohio is longish. (I'm guessing 10-12 hours, but haven't mapped it yet.)
[edit]
Assuming Burr Oak State Park, which seems to be what I recall people saying, and using Glouster, Ohio as my distance point (south west side of park, for worst case), Google maps suggest this is about 1126 kms, or about 10-11 hours of driving time. It suggests the southern route, south of both lakes Ontario and Erie (which looks right to me, too). This will slow me down, too, as that is through a large chunk of New York state, and I really shouldn't be pulled over by police there. Most of the route is interstates, so not all that interesting, but making it non-interstate would also make the time taken noticeable longer, so may not be worth the time.
Two 11-hours day, two-up is a lot. Actually, even one-up, that would be a pretty hefty weekend of riding. And, the Concours isn't bad two-up, but it isn't a Hondabago either, so two-up will be a lot more work.
[/edit]
The weather will have to be good, if it isn't I won't be doing it.
And, I can't stretch it -- I need to be in Ottawa for Monday morning, May 8th, for work. (Can't take holiday that day.)

Date: 2006-04-24 10:22 am (UTC)Phil Ross went down to the same area last weekend and took many pictures which he made into a slide show. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/philross/sets/72057594110169760/show/) It's worth it. (I clicked 'next-next-next' instead of waiting, but YMMV.)
If you make it, it's going to be great seeing you there.

Date: 2006-04-24 02:07 pm (UTC)A man just requested one of the twin beds in my cabin. If you're going, you can get both twins. If you're not or not sure, I'd like to offer it to him.
If he gets the bed and you still want to go, I know there's room in other cabins. (And if it's only him, I'll kick him out to sleep on the rollaway and you'll get the twins. < grin >)
Do you know when you'll know if you're going?
