This spring has been house-stuff spring for me.

New roof. I was missing a bunch of shingles, but this transmogrified into a roof rebuild. I wasn't surprised -- I knew much of it was rotten.

New furnace. My furnace has not been very consistent lately -- a couple failures. Also, I don't have A/C. So, I decided to move to a heat-pump. That's not really sufficient in Ottawa's climate, so moving to a heat-pump plus furnace combo. I've done the Home energy audit, so that I can get a few thousand back from the government, and may be looking at other improvements (more insulation), too. Next week it gets installed, apparently taking 3-4 days, cause having a house dating to the 19th century makes things complicated.

Junk removal. I had a junk removal company come by and remove an old large CRT television (2nd floor), two old window-unit A/C (front porch, garage), another window-unit A/C and chest freezer (garage), old dishwasher (back room), two old clothers-washers and an old dryer (basement). They were, also, supposed to remove an old stand-up freezer in the basement, but in starting to move it, knock a pipe, and my plumbing sprang a leak.

Plumber. Fix plumging leak in baseemnt. Plamuber looked at the join that had separated, and was amazed that it had ever held water. So, not going after junk-removal people for compensation -- not their fault, bad original. While he was here, had him also fix toilet that was running constantly.

Electrician -- fix several not-working light sockets in basement, fix not-working light switch in kitchen, and replace two dimmer-switches with simple switches, as dimmer-switches don't play well with LED bulbs. (You can, I've seen, get dimmer-compatible LEDs, but they're about 5x the cost of other LEDs. And, really, neither my dining room nor my entrace hallway need dimmers.)

I also hauled a bunch of garbage (couple of garbage bags worth) out of my basement myself.

Will I continue to have house-improvement energy after my trip to Germany in a week? We'll have to see...

Always good to keep the roof above your head! That's a lot of house fixing, congratulations.
