Live by the leaf?!?

Poor choice of slogan for advertising campaign?

PetroCanada has a new "Live by the leaf" advertising slogan/campaign. Of course, when I see "Live by the X" I think of "Live by the X, die by the X" -- classically sword. (By classically, I mean Aeschylus, 450 BC (or so).)

Not the association I'd want for my company.

Many old sound bites have been distilled down so far that they no longer mean what they once did. "Blood is thicker than water", "great minds think a like" and many others.
Still, their use might be more apt than they are willing to admit...

I agree that it's not necessarily the desired association... but any mindshare is good, according to a lot of marketers.

"Live by the X, die by the X" is a good snowclone.

Or the famous phrase "I am a leaf on the wind"... which didn't end well.
