Not the planned day, but a good day.
Dec. 23rd, 2014 04:47 pmI climbed with Gen and Shawn today, and we had planned to go up Yankee Clipper -- a 15-pitch climb up the Jungle Wall. But, unfortunately it was way too windy to climb (or hope to rappel) that -- windy enough that walking was hard at time. So, we headed into the Virgin Canyon (more wind protected) for the morning where we climbed a couple routes. Then, as the wind dropped, we headed for a short multi-pitch climb and chose Jungle Mountaineering (5.9, 5.9, 5.9, 5.10a) on the Jungle Wall.
Shawn lead & linked first two pitches. I took over to do pitch 3, got to the anchor, and thinking the final pitch was easier (5.8) figured I could also link the pitches, and would be fine with the weight of two ropes hanging on me. Oops... that was the crux pitch, not the easy pitch. Happy to pull all the 10a moves with extra weight. Lots of grunting involved, though.
