Yet Another Update! Yay!
Jul. 28th, 2005 11:22 pmI headed up to the cottage Monday evening with
leolac, and it being, and having been hot for the last month, and being silly, I didn't pack any sweaters, and only one pair of long pants. Of course, Tuesday and Wednesday are the coldest days we've had in a goodly while -- it was quite chilly up at the cottage.
I spent most of Tuesday splitting wood, a bit of it stacking, and a bit of it chainsawing -- with much help with stacking and a bit with splitting from
leolac. At least the cool weather was really good for doing the work -- when not working, I was chilly, but when working I was quite warm, and definitely working up a sweat. And, while the air was cool, the lake water was still wonderful and comfortable for swimming.
As far as primary cleanup, most of what needed to be done has already been done -- roads cleared, paths cleared, deck cleared, etc. Some repair work is still needed on the back deck, and there's some more sawing and splitting and stacking of firewood to be done -- but nothing really major. Thanks all for the offer of a work party, but I don't think it will actually be needed.
I should have some more images of downed trees and shattered stumps to post soon, though. At least one of the trees down was too large around for me to get my arms around it, and that's not at the base -- that's around 10-12 feet along the trunk (I almost said off the ground, but it is no longer off the ground by that much). That's some big tree -- definitely old-growth forest for the area, I'd say.
It's been a rough work week -- 2 day week, one day of work, 2 day "weekend", one day of work (today), 4 day weekend.
Yup, off tomorrow as well.
foms and I are headed down to Baitcon for the weekend. It should be fun -- the last one I was at (lo these many years ago) was. Should be back Sunday, probably latish Sunday evening, giving me Monday to recover. Plan is to pick him up tomorrow (Friday) at 10am. Wonder when we'll make it out of town? I'd like to make it to the site around dinner time, so we're not setting up a tent in the dark.
