Ok, it was definitely the week for joining the modern age. I now have a cell-phone too. Work paid for the phone & a few accessories, and will pay for much of the air-time plan as well. I travel enough to want/need one -- and work used to have a loaner that I borrowed, but that is no longer the case. For those who know/care, my phone is an Audiovox 8600. Not particularly fancy as modern cell phones go, but fairly small and compact, and looks to work ok. (The manual is about 3 times the size of the phone and, unfortunately, not all that good. In many case it says "to do X, follow these steps", but doesn't say what "doing X" will change about the functioning of the phone -- yet is missing how to configure other stuff that I'm sure must be configurable. When I get the chance I'm going to do some online searching, I just know there's gotta be more/better information available.
