A Clever Title
Apr. 15th, 2005 06:22 pmLast weekend D moved out, so I now have my house to myself. This is good.
Without her big pile of not-unpacked stuff, there is a lot more space on the main floor, and it no longer feels like several rooms are in limbo. I'm spending time trying to get the house organised -- rearranging, cleaning, sorting, etc. I want to get it stuff to where it belongs, and find somewhere to belong for all the stuff that is sitting around waiting for such a place. And, thanks to
carynb I need some more bookshelves, too. Ok, I could shelve all the books on my existing shelves, but they'd have to be lieing on their sides, rather than on end, and that's just not as convenient. After the arranging, I'll do a full house cleaning, or maybe, I'll pay someone to do it.
I've got some minor to moderate renovation jobs I'd like to get done or finished, too. My upstairs hallway is part way through a remove & replace wall renovation, and I don't know if it can be completed, or needs to be torn down & restarted.
The back-most of the four bedrooms in my house has a major hole in the plaster on one wall. This is the shared wall with a bathroom where the bathroom was completely gutted & rebuilt, and the shared wall was in quite rough shape (even structurally, though it isn't a load-bearing wall, so that wasn't a big issue), and the demolition of the bathroom cause knock-on damage to the plaster in the bedroom. Don't know whether patchable, or whether may mean demolishing the entire wall, and rebuilding in wall board (instead of plaster).
The next bedroom has had a start at removing the stucko/wallpaper/paint, but only a small area has been done. I don't think there's anyway to reasonably patch/fix this, so the entire room is going to have to be stripped down. Not very technically difficult, but kind of a pain to do. Wonder if I know any under-employed people who'd like to do it for me.
Then, all three areas will need to be painted.
And, there's lots more to do... but those are just kind of the more immediate ones, especially the two bedrooms. If I'm going to rent them out, it would be nice if they weren't broken.
This gives me a lot more freedom to live in my home the way I want to. Among other things, I can say that if anyone needs a place to crash/sleep while visitting Ottawa, they are welcome to stay here. If anyone needs a short-term place to stay, they can stay here. That sort of stuff. I can make friends welcome in my home again.
