It was definitely a "bridges freeze before roads" evening out there. On the way back from climbing, I got to see an oncoming SUV fishtail, spin out, cross the median and come to a stop half-way on the sidewalk on my side of St Laurent -- on one of the bridges.

Stop, and checked -- the driver was shaken (of course), but ok. She asked about calling 911 -- I suggested not bothering, there were no injuries and the only damage appeared to be to her SUV: her front right tire & rim were trashed, and her rear tire was flat. Get a tow truck, and get things fixed. Probably not even worth reporting to insurance. (Well, unless there were hidden axle type damage or something like that.)

Then drove the rest of the way home. Carefully. Did see evidence that there had been other road mishaps as well.

It's way cheaper to get your axle fixed than to get involved with insurance. :)
Good thing you stopped to help her. Sounds like she was in shock and needed someone to talk things through with her, and 911 isn't really the best person for that.

Yes, that was my thought -- fix it yourself is generally way cheaper than getting the insurance people involved unless things are really major.

A couple of other people stopped, too. I was pretty glad to see that several people were willing to stop.

I'm pretty sure that there is a law that you have to call the police if it is over "$x" amount of damage... maybe $2000? They don't always bother to send someone out - they ask you to come in to the station later and file a report. But then they at least have it on record that something happened.
