Awesome party!
Dec. 29th, 2008 12:07 pmI had a great birthday and port party last night. Thank you everyone who came by, brought more party snacks or ports, or other presents. It was awesome to see you all, and you all made it a really great party.
Also, especially big thanks to those of you that did clean up at the end. It is especially appreciated this year since clean up is far more difficult on crutches than it would ordinarily be.
The three main ports that I served were:
Sandeman 20 year old Tawny.
Warre's bottle-matured LBV 1999.
Dow's Colheita Port 1992.
The first two I picked up in Michigan last week. The 3rd was brought by ragnhildr, and I think she said it was given to her by i_and_t.
They were all quite interesting and enjoyable ports. And, something I found quite interesting, though I should have found unsurprising, each of them was a favourite port of the evening for different people.
My person favourite, and the one I found most interesting, was the Warre's. But I know that others preferred one of the other two as well.
Later in the evening a bottle of Madeira (Cada Dos Vinhos, Madeira, 5 years old) was opened. This bottle was brought by commodorified. It was a nice follow on to the ports as well.
All of the Warre's went. I have small quantities of the Dow's and Sandeman left. I don't expect either to last long. :)

Date: 2008-12-30 03:06 am (UTC)I'm sorry I couldn't make your party (or wish you happy birthday on the right day). The weekend turned out to be Christmas visiting with relatives and lots and lots of driving (probably the same as a one way trip from Ottawa, but some back and forthing all over southern Ontario.
Hope it was a great celebration.

Date: 2008-12-30 04:41 am (UTC)I'm glad I tried the madeira after the ports (although I only tried the main 3 you listed above). The madeira was nice, but I don't think as interesting as I found the ports.
