Plans for this year...
Jan. 24th, 2005 08:39 pmApril 8-10: Ad Astra in Toronto, rooming with
jeffreyab.
April 22-24: Penguicon in Novi, Michigan, rooming with
jeffreyab.
June 9th & 10th: ride the Cabot Trail (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) with
elizilla. We discussed this at the con, but I didn't write anything down... I think the plans we came up with were: meet at the southern of the Maine-Nova Scotia ferries evening of Wednesday, June 8th. It crosses overnight, ride in Nova Scotia Thursday, Friday, get to ferry back to mainland on Saturday. Overnight on mainland Saturday, and head home-wards on Sunday. Sound right?
ladysprite, are you likely to be around home June 7-8th, and have crash space? If so, I'd love to come down to Boston on Tuesday, and visit you before starting this trip.
June 24-26th: Apollocon in Houston, Texas. Current thought is to head to Texas by going south (through some interesting riding), then east, hopefully arriving in Dallas for Wednesday June 22nd, to visit Thomas and Stacey, then on to Austin on Thursday to visit another friend, and finally to Houston for Friday and the convention. For Sunday, will see how the day goes, either head out not-too-late, or see if
kgkofmel can put me up for Sunday night, and get an early start on Monday. Figure I'll go north, then east, as I need to be back reasonably quickly, not wanting to arrive in Ottawa later than evening of Wednesday (June 29th), so that I have Thursday the 30th to get ready for...
July 1-3 (or maybe 4): annual cottage party, held at my parents cottage, in the Gatineau hills, north of Ottawa.
August: Bachanal somewhere in South-East Michigan. Few details are currently available. :)
October 7-9 Conclave in Lansing, Michigan, rooming with
jeffreyab.
I'd like to make it to a Chicago convention this year, choices seem to be: Capricon February 10-13, Duckon May 6-8, or Windycon November 11-13. Capricon looks a bit too short term for planning, and both April and June already have a lot of travel making Duckon a bit iffy looking, so it might just be Windycon.
I'm thinking about Marcon May 27-29 as well, but as I said about Duckon, I may not want to travel much in May, given how busy April & June are looking.
And, I'd like to get up to Montreal a couple times to visit friends there, as well.
Tomorrow, I request lots of vacation days...

Date: 2005-01-25 09:17 am (UTC)You see, I always recommend to people who are new to conventions, or new to an area, that volunteering is a great way to meet people at the convention. So... I should follow my own advice, right? I'm new to Apollocon, and new to the area, so I should volunteer.
So, which department do you think needs me?

Date: 2005-01-25 11:59 am (UTC)But...ME? Run a Con room party? *runs away in screaming terror*
Seriously, I have *severe* party-planning-phobia. I held a b'day party for one of my children once, and *that* was enough to make me a stressmonkey for a couple weeks beforehand.

Date: 2005-01-25 12:18 pm (UTC)I should warn you, no dance this year....

Date: 2005-01-25 12:23 pm (UTC)Hm... if I bring CDs, and have a room, do you have a boom-box I might borrow? Wonder how many people can dance in a hotel room...
I've never worked reg before, that could be fun.

Date: 2005-01-25 12:26 pm (UTC)1. Reserve a room at the hotel.
2. Tell your bestest Bujold-list friend/s in the area that you have a room, and want to run a party to promote all things Bujold to the Houston crowd and show 'em that you folk know how to have a good time, BUT you just couldn't run it on your own AND would they like to come on down/over and help make it happen?
3. Invite all and sundry Bujoldians in the area to come on down to check out this new convention.
4. Bat those beee-yooo-tiful eyes at all and sundry and tell them how helpless you are but that you know where the grocery store and the liquor store are and will help with the shopping, and besides you've got this room they could use...
5. Help put up signs at the con.
6. And then you just lolligag about and accept kudos for the resulting party with becoming modesty, always being sure to say "oh, I provided the room, but XXX and YYY did most of the work."

Date: 2005-01-25 12:31 pm (UTC)And depending on how things go, if there is function space available and you want to run an improptu dance we'll see what happens.
But we have no budget, staff or space for a real dance this year.
