Or, why do you keep cranking up the AC in my room?

When I arrive, I'm not surprised to find the room a might chilly -- it is, after all, the southern USA and they tend to over-air-condition things. But, it is night, and I'm headed for bed, and I like sleeping in a cool room, so I leave it set at 72.

The next morning, I figure I'm gone for the day -- why not save a bit of electricity, and I turn it up to 75. Only to come back to find it reset to 72. I turn it to 75 right away.

Tuesday, come home to find it down at 72. Set it back 75 again.

Wednesday, wow... ice chest... set for 66! Back to 75.

Thursday... sweet victory... still set at 75. Maybe the person resetting has recognised my habits and left it that way?

Friday... nope. Back to 72. I wonder if the weekend will be any different?

It could have several different programming presets during the day (mine at home does) and when you change it, it is only a temporary change. Though the ice chest thing would kinda rule that out, I suppose.

It's not time-based presets. I've got a programmable thermostat at home, too -- this isn't one.

That's my guess. Fairly heavy physical work, and vacuums generate more heat than one might think. So the scenario "enter room, start cleaning, begin overheating, crank the AC, finish cleaning, move on" seems eminently reasonable. It'd be nice if the housekeeper remembered to set it back when finished, but I expect those folk are driven pretty harshly to get more rooms done in less time--so I'm inclined to cut them a fair amount of slack.

Maids do often crank the A/C while they're working, which is how it would have gotten down to 66. Resetting the A/C to Hotel Standard is something the maid is supposed to do. You could try taping a note to the knob.
