A week in Yosemite
Oct. 3rd, 2016 08:31 pmI spent last week at the American Alpine Club's International Climbers Meetup (AAC's ICM), which was held in Yosemite park this year. This is my fourth ICM, and it was good to both meet new climbers and see some old climbing friends.
I ended up climbing every day for 7 days in a row, which made for a lot of climbing. My biggest achievement of the week was Royal Arches -- a 15 pitch / 1500 ft climb that I did in 8.5 hours up, 3.5 hours down. This meant that I was, happily, back in time for dinner. At previous ICMs, climbers have been benighted on the climb, and gotten back very late. In fact, even at this ICM, attempts at Royal Arches resulted in very-late-night returns to the camp. Royal Arches is the longest moderately-easy (5.7 A0) route in the Yosemite Valley, and I'm happy my ascent went smoothly and quickly.
I'm now in San Diego for work, and will finally be back to Ottawa late Thursday.
