A weekend in New Hampshire
Mar. 28th, 2016 10:24 pmAlso, went down to New Hampshire for Easter weekend -- climbing, of course. 6 of us went down in two cars, Kate and Noah with me; Anna and Andrea with Michal. We climbed on Saturday under a gorgeous sunny blue sky at Rumney. On Sunday, we split into two groups with the other car going back to Rumney, and my car going to Whitehorse Ledge, where we chose Beginner's Route over Standard Route because it looked drier. (Standard Route is, normally, a better beginner's route than beginner's route as the guidebook mentions in the description for Beginner's Route.) Unfortunately, despite the forecast, we didn't get very much sun. There was definitely a lot of wet rock, and a bit of icy rock, but the climb still went well, we were done in good time, finishing around 5pm -- just in time for the sun to finally show. Hike down was good, and we were back at the car for about 6pm, and home in Ottawa by about 11:30pm. It was, I think, both Kate and Noah's longest multi-pitch and definitely Noah's by far. The route goes at 10 pitches (and not generally short pitches, either), and I think the most he'd done previously was 3 pitches. I'm not sure what Kate's longest climb before this was.
