state of the ankle
Nov. 3rd, 2008 08:04 pmI went to the follow-up at the Civic hospital (*sigh* Ottawa Hospital, Civic campus) today. The X-rays didn't show any sign of shifting in the fracture, but the doctor said it is in a major weight-bearing bone (from my look at the X-rays and then at some anatomy pictures, it looks like it is in the Talus), and they'd really like to make sure it is healing properly. So, I'm supposed to be called to go in for a CAT-scan later this week, then meet early next week to discuss results and treatment. Quick estimate, if this is the uncomplicated situation it appears to be is about 6-weeks without weight-bearing, then about 6 weeks rehabilitation. If it is more complex, will probably require surgery then more time -- not sure how much more time.
I find myself with very little pain, and that is with noticeably less vitamin-I than the original doctor in emergency had suggested. The swelling doesn't look too bad either.
My mobility on crutches isn't too bad, though it is a lot more tiring than walking. Also, wearing on the arms and shoulders. But the big pain is I can't carry anything. I can bring along a bag/pack, and that will do for some stuff. But how do you bring a drink from the kitchen to the table? You can't just throw a glass of OJ into a pack. Same idea for coffee at work.
I'm going to miss my climbing. I wonder how I'd do in the gym 3-limbed?
