What a screwed up trip that was
Feb. 3rd, 2008 09:42 pmI think I may have collected more total trouble from air travel on this last trip than any previous trip I've ever done.
First leg - Ottawa-Detroit: my 2pm (Friday) flight is canceled, I'm rebooked for 6am Saturday morning. Way too early, and makes me miss a big chunk of Confusion.
Second leg - Detroit to Queretaro: Actually not too bad. Only get there about 1/2 an hour late.
Third leg - Queretaro to Indinapolis: We get delayed departing Querataro, so I get in to Houston to late to make my connection. Rebooking puts me into Indianapolis about 6 hours late.
Indianapolis - Ottawa: get to Detroit, to find that they've oversold the Ottawa flight. I get bumped (as does one other person). Best of the options they have (from what I can tell) is Detroit-Montreal-Ottawa, with about 1.5 hours stop-over in Montreal. 1.5 hours looks ok, so decide to go for it. The incoming flight we're supposed to get on doesn't land until about 1/2 hour after our boarding, but they say they'll do a quick turn-around and get us out. I might still make it. Then, after we all load on to the plane, we sit at the gate for at least another 1/2 hour (I finished my book, and I had a good chunk left) while they bumped and thumped around with luggage. (Or, as they said, luggage and cargo.) So much for the quick change. We touch down in Montreal about when my flight to Ottawa is leaving, but we still have to do the customs & wait for luggage thing. My luggage doesn't show. Get out of customs and go to rebook my Ottawa flight a bit after my Ottawa flight should have landed. Book the next flight, which is supposed to be around 11:30 departure. The incoming flight for that is late, too. I finally get in to Ottawa sometime after 12:30. (Supposed arrival time -- 3:30pm.) I completely miss the party I really wanted to get to last night. I don't have luggage.
And, I still don't have my luggage. Luggage tracking site says, "still tracing". Damn. Usually if it is a little screwup, they get the luggage to you the next day. I've got a bad feeling about this. How badly did they screw up the re-tagging in Detroit after I got bumped? It isn't like they didn't have LOTS of time to get it to the right flight. So, this is in the badly lost case.
I wonder what sort of coverage I have? I've started making a list of what went missing.
On the (supposed) bright side... I do have a free ticket on Northwest. Unfortunately, that would mean I'd have to fly Northwest, again. Ugh.
Approximate total delay time: 34 hours. That's a bloody work week.
