Leolac and I had a wonderful date night last night. To start, she made us dinner. Then I took her out ballroom dancing (well, and some Swing). Then we came home, had ice cream and read poetry to each other. Mmmm!

We had me, leolac, ansfrid, ragnhildr and Devon. We started with Trans Europa, a quick game for up to 6 people, because I wanted to allow time for our remaining RSVPed gamer to show, but unfortunately she didn't make it. Followed Trans Europa with Maya, which Devon bowed out of due to tiredness. Then we played Gloom, which ragnhildr bowed out of due to being unable to read the cards (they are difficult to read). I think ragnhildr was tired, as she actually napped on the couch during the game of Gloom. After Gloom, ragnhildr had to leave for the birthday dinner of our no-show, the remaining three of looked for a shorter game, and chose San Juan. I narrowly beat leolac for Trans Europa and Gloom; ansfrid took Maya with a close victory over ragnhildr, and I won San Juan.

This was my first playing of Maya, and I think we all liked it. (Well, leolac isn't sure yet, but she can sometimes take a while to digest a new game, and decide whether she likes it or not.) The box claims 60 or 60-90 minutes (60 minutes on the side, 60-90 minutes on the bottom of the box. Perhaps, only slower gamers look at the bottom of the box while faster gamers only look at the side?) and that seems reasonable, since we were learning it, too.

In about 5.5 hours, we played 4 games, which included rules explanations for all of them, including doing it twice for Trans Europa as our 5th player arrived after I'd done the rules once. (Though, the rules to Trans Europa are fairly short.) The claimed time frames for the games were Trans Europa - 30 minutes, Maya 60/60-90 minutes, San Juan 30 minutes, and no statement for Gloom. Given explanations, and that most games were new to most people, I think those times look like they mostly come out to reasonable.

My music CD collection had been in a huge mess, random piles of CDs sitting on a table, and some CDs in racks. Ick.

It is now categorized and sorted within the categories. Categories include: Rush, Jethro Tull, Rock/Pop, Jazz & Blues, Classical (broad sense, including someone as modern as Grofe), Dance (i.e. collections specifically for Ballroom/Swing type dancing), Folk/Filk/World Music/Doesn't Fit Elsewhere, and the small stack of CDs I've never listened to and for which I don't recognise the performer for genre categorization.

Yay!
