Leaving for Texas soon...
Jun. 17th, 2005 03:10 pmSo, I'm about to disappear off the face of LJ for a while -- again.
Sunday morning I hop on the bike and head for Texas -- I have 3-4 days to make it to Dallas, then on to Austin, then Houston for Apollocon. 3 days after Apollocon to make it home, then one day of mad shopping, weekend at cottage, and finally back to where I might actually have connectivity. (Though, if I make it to Dallas in three days, I'm sure I'll be able to borrow Tom's connection to catch up with things on Wednesday.)
So, I won't be posting too much, or responding too much.
I'm madly trying to get a trip report from Nova Scotia written, some neccessary posts about maps and directions up, routes planned, packing planned and executed, and all that other fun stuff.
And, of course, I've been out for something social every evening this week -- and will be this evening and much of Saturday, too.
At least I've got a new rear tire on the bike, and new oil & filter in it. Front looked good for Texas and back, though I may need a new front once I get back. Of course, I was at the dealership for a while waiting while they did the tire change, which is a dangerous (to the pocketbook) thing. I looked at new boots -- but they didn't have anything waterproof that fit, so I bought boot covers. I'm not really happy with the fit of either of my current helmets (an AGV and an HJC flip up -- though the flip up is very convenient for around-town errands and such), both have some pressure points. So, I bought a new Shoei that seemed comfortable. Of course, you can't really tell how well a helmet fits until you've worn it for 4+ hours straight, so it's always kind of a gamble. I'll be taking the Shoei & the AGV on this trip. (The HJC starts hurting more/faster than the AGV.) And, since both of my non-warm riding gloves have holes, I bought new gloves, too. Luckily they didn't have any magnetic map pockets, or I'd have probably bought one of those, too. I'm such a consumer!
