I don't count Oregon, since I never left the airport, and it was an unintentional re-routing after being unable to land in Seattle (well, Seattle-Tacoma airport). These are all places I have, let us say, "put rubber on the road".

Hm... I have done a goodly portion of the US, haven't I?

Some of this has been business trips (Florida, Georgia, Alabama), but most of it has been various road trips I've done, often on motorcycle. Ottawa - San Francisco for '93 Worldcon, Ottawa - Winnipeg by way of the status for '94 worldcon, Ottawa - Washington D.C. for a bridge tournament a couple times, Ottawa - Vancouver for a family camping trip (VW Wesfalia, not motorcycle), Ottawa - Texas a couple times.

Of the Canadian provinces, I've visited: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. I'm missing Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island, and all the territories.

I am missing several of the same places: Louisiana, South Dakota, PEI, Newfoundland. Obviously we should make a road trip, or several road trips, to some of these places. (My other missing pieces are Idaho, Manitoba, and all the territories except for Yukon.)

I've been thinking of leaving South Dakota for the very last. There are so many people who assume that "motorcycle touring" means a regular pilgrimage to Sturgis. I'd like to be able to say I visited every other state and province first. :-)

I'm not sure the riding to Louisiana would be all that interesting. PEI is reachable by bridge (and ferry) -- but Newfoundland would be a ferry ride from Nova Scotia, most likely. (Well, there looks to be a road to the Labrador part, up through Quebec, but it doesn't look to be a good road. It is marked, on my map, as gravel for several hundred kilometres.) Manitoba, also, isn't very exciting riding.

I had thought to pickup North Carolina on our autumn trip we were talking about for this year.

Maybe back to the Canadian east next summer?

Some folks from Sabmag took that road to Labrador. They said it was awful, not because of the gravel (though it WAS hundreds of miles of gravel) but because of the insects. They said the surface was such that you couldn't go fact enough to stop insects from flying up inside your helmet and clustering around your nose and mouth. They said the locals would put their bikes on the train instead of riding that road.

The state you have marked as unvisited is South Carolina. It would be easy enough to ride there when we go to North Carolina.

Wow, I'm actually ahead of you. In the U.S. I'm only missing Alaska, Hawaii, Arkansas, Connecticut & Rhode Island, and in Canada only Newfoundland and the territories.

Sounds like a really good reason to not take the road to Labrador. So, that probably means a ferry to Newfoundland island to pick up that province.

Oops, you're right, South Carolina not North Carolina was the missing state on my map (and the one I thought we could visit one our south-east good roads trip).

Mostly with my parents. We drove to California one summer, through OK, TX, NM and AZ to get to Los Angeles, then up to S.F. and back home through NV, UT, WY, NE, IA, etc. Accordingly, I haven't added any new states or provinces since 1993, when we flew to Denver and then drove to Seattle and back, which is when we hit South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore.

As a side note, I have also been to 31 baseball stadiums, the most recent one being U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago last year :-)

They are on the cutting edge with physician assisted suicide -- didn't the US supreme court just recently uphold that law, in fact?

I think to really appreciate Oregon, I'd want to go riding there. But, a con somewhere there (e.g. Portland) could work, too.

I don't think it is going to happen this year, though. LA Con is already a long-distance, expensive, con for me this year. I don't think I want another.

I've been to every state but Hawaii, actually, if you count the family road trips we did when I was a kid. But when I did this meme last year I just did it for the places I've been since I started traveling a lot as an adult, and almost all of that has been on the motorcycle.

Pretty much the most valuable thing I got out of family road trips as a kid, is that I didn't have to overcome any of that "Here Be Dragons" feeling that some people seem to have. I was a bookish kid, and to me car trips were a time to read, read, read. I didn't pay a lot of attention to what was outside the car windows, and by the time we arrived I usually was more interested in whether there was swimming at the campground, than anything else.

Yes, SCotUS did uphold that law, recently. Although it wasn't being attacked on the basis that doctors shouldn't be allowed to assist in suicide. The Attorney General was trying to say that prescribing drugs with the intent of assisting in suicide was not consistent with another law that was designed to prevent drug trafficking. SCotUS (basically) said it was not inconsistent, because that law was specifically designed to prevent drug trafficking, and that the voters in Oregon had deemed the prescribing of drugs for the purpose of assisting in suicide as a legitimate use of certain drugs.

I can understand wanting to ride there. I dunno what to say about that, though. Not my cup of tea. I think that would be an excellent way to appreciate it, though.

I'm still debating about WorldCon this year. I've never been, and this one is closer to home than some. I guess we'll see what job I have when I'm done with Tax Season. :)

If I look at family trips, I would lose some of the US northwest, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick. But, I really feel I should include at least the northwest trip, because I did between 1/3 and 1/2 of the driving on that trip. So, really to eliminate truly "childhood" trips would only remove New Brunswick from my list.
